I constructed a series of dams

To redirect my emotions

To ensure their flow did not overwhelm me

To ensure their flow did not drown me

The dams proved to be futile

The waters of life washed over me

The waters of death carried me

I let go

I let the waters take me

In their thrashing waves of sorrow

In their unpredictable rise of grief

I let go

I let the water take me

To the place I truly wanted to go

To the person I truly wanted to become
